Q How is The Body Club different from other fitness and sports conditioning businesses in the area?

A The Body Club is a group of expert Personal Trainers and Sports Performance Coaches. We pride ourselves on the results our staff gets with the clients we work with. Our staff is the most experienced and highly qualified in all of Charleston, and the entire East Central Illinois area. While fitness fads and other fitness businesses have come and gone, we have been in business for 23 years.

Q Why should I train at The Body Club?

A Our methods and professional expertise will allow you to reach your fitness or athletic goals in a safe and realistic manner. We believe each client is unique. Our expert staff of Personal Trainers and Sports Performance Coaches will test, assess, and design a customized program based on your individual goals and needs. This enables us to achieve the specific results that our clients want, safely and efficiently.

Q What services do you offer?

A We provide one-on-one, or small group, personal training, as well as one-on-one sports performance training. We also offer group fitness classes like our TRX Suspension Training, Group Sports Performance Training, and Yoga for those who want the option of training in a group setting. All of these services are delivered by our expert staff.

Q I am overweight and intimidated by exercise. What can you tell me to help me feel comfortable about your services?

A We have years of experience and success working with clients whose main goal is weight loss, or body fat reduction. You can be assured our expert personal trainers will formulate a strategy for you to achieve your weight loss goals in a safe and realistic manner without dangerous exercises or extreme measures. You will learn to adopt positive lifestyle changes and gain confidence, improve self esteem and body image as you work with your trainer toward your weight loss goal.

The relationship and the trust you will develop with your trainer, and the light and fun atmosphere of our semi-private training facility appeals to those who might feel awkward in a crowded commercial gym.

If you are self conscious or intimidated by exercise, you will feel very comfortable and at ease after discussing your goals with our staff at your free consultation.

Q What if I have had a knee or hip replacement?

A We have relationships with many health care professionals in the area. If necessary, we will work with your orthopedic physician and physical therapist to design your post rehab exercise program based on their recommendations and your individual needs. Many of our clients who have had joint replacement surgery have achieved greater joint range of motion, increased joint mobility, and functional improvements in their ability to perform the activities of daily living.

Q What if I currently have pain in one of the following areas: low back, shoulders, knees, hips, elbow, or neck?

A Our expert staff is both qualified and experienced in dealing with these issues. We will discuss what appropriate actions need to be taken to address your pain issues at your free consultation.

Q I am already good at my sport. Why do I need sports performance training?

A We do not teach specific sport skills like shooting a basketball or throwing a fastball. We train athletes to improve their athleticism so they can be better at their sport. Sport Performance Coaches at The Body Club will help you improve your speed, power, agility, strength, flexibility, and movement skills to improve athletic performance.

Q Is it appropriate for my young athlete to participate in the sports performance training?

A If your child is at least 8 years old and participates in sports, the answer is yes! Sports require a high level of fitness and physical preparation for safe participation. Unfortunately, the fitness level of many young children today is very low. Children who are physically unprepared to handle the rigors of sport are more susceptible to broken bones, connective tissue tears, muscle strains, concussions, and more serious injuries.

Sports performance training programs at The Body Club are designed to strengthen a young athlete's body, as well as prevent injury and improve athleticism. Some other benefits include teaching them discipline, work ethic, and self confidence. All the programs are age appropriate and supervised by Sports Performance Coaches whom have years of experience working with young athletes.

Q What are the most important things to consider before starting an exercise program?

A There is no such thing as a one size fits all exercise program. Quite frankly, there are some exercises and types of training programs that should NEVER be performed by some individuals or certain populations even if they are modified. Many programs focus on results but ignore safety. At The Body Club, we believe training should be safe, effective, and based on the sound principles of exercise science.

  • Exercise programs must be corrective and preventive. A highly trained and qualified personal trainer will be able to individually test and evaluate you to determine what specifically needs to be done to correct any muscle imbalances or faulty movement patterns you may have developed. This is the only way to reach your fitness goals safely. At The Body Club, each client is tested and evaluated to give our trainers the information needed to develop the proper program for you.

Q What are the most important things to consider before hiring a personal trainer?

A Make sure if you desire to work with a personal trainer that they are qualified. A qualified personal trainer will have credentials and experience.

Personal trainer credentials & experience should include:

  • An accredited fitness certification

    Body Club trainers hold certifications that have been recognized by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (the only recognized 3rd party accrediting agency in the fitness industry).

  • An educational background

    At The Body Club, our trainers have earned degrees or completed college course work in exercise science, kinesiology, exercise physiology, and biomechanics.

    Every Body Club trainer has professional liability insurance through industry recognized insurance companies.
